James Steven Yoakum (Steve), 70, of Lancaster passed away on Sunday, February 16 surrounded by his family. He was born on September 10, 1954 to the late James and Norma (Dick) Yoakum. He was an avid genealogist, an outdoorsman, and volunteered for the Boy Scouts. He retired in 2004 from THE Ohio State University after 30 plus years as a high voltage electrician. His family was very important to him. He loved nature and would never let the bird seed run out. His sense of humor was unrivaled and he had an eclectic choice of music.
Steve is survived by his wife, Kim, of 46 years; children, Elizabeth Renee (Matthew) Young, Sarah Kathleen (Charles) Murray, Steven Patrick Yoakum; grandchildren, Joslyn, Jasmine, Trinity, and Katelyn Murray; Claire and Gabriel Young; siblings, Deborah Yoakum, Terry (Tom) Maxwell, Cindy Yoakum, Jeff Yoakum, and Mike (Tammy) Yoakum; honorary son, Jordan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 21 from 4pm until 7pm at Taylor-Theller Funeral Home 111 W Main St, Amanda and again on Saturday, February 22 from 10am until 11am when the funeral service will be held. Entombment will follow at Lithopolis Cemetery.
