William P. McKenzie, 80, of Amanda, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his family. Bill was born June 17, 1931 in Lancaster and was the son of the late Henry James and Manda Judy (Skaggs) McKenzie. Bill was a member of the Royalton Community Church. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a machine gun Sergeant.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis (Wampler) McKenzie; son, Thomas (Peggy) McKenzie of Stoutsville; three daughters, Venus (Bill) Abram, Malinda (Mike) Miller and Summer (Rudy) Cox all of Amanda; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two sisters, Violet Riffle of Ashville and Bonnie Azbell of Lancaster. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers.
Bill was a good Christian man who was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a competitive man in everything he did and a mentor to his family.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Amanda United Methodist Church with Pastor Larry Horn officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service for fellowship and a meal at the church.
