Marilyn J. Hunter Corn (JoAnn) of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her daughter's house, which she called home for the last 26 years, on February 28, 2023. She was 91 years old.
JoAnn was born on February 18, 1932, in Laurelville, Ohio to Elsie (Wynkoop) and Guy Hunter. She graduated from Laurelville High School in 1949, where she often sold her potato sack dresses and blouses for pocket money. She later worked at RAYOVAC for 22 years. Her life was woven with resilience: growing up during the Depression, surviving breast cancer, and living on after the deaths of her husband and sons.
JoAnn, or "GG" as she was known to her 3 generations of grandchildren, was a lifelong lover of stories- reading them, watching them, and telling them. When she wasn't crocheting in front of the tv or making her famous homemade noodles, she could be found sitting outside enjoying crossword puzzles and watching the hummingbirds and deer. Her favorite thing, though, was visiting with and watching her descendants grow up. She was a foundational member of her family, and her presence, her smile, and her stories are deeply missed.
She is survived by daughter Pat (Tom) Soliday, daughter in-law Brenda Corn, brother Guy "Pug" Hunter, sisters Dorothy Sharp, Nancy Jackson, Susan Picklesimer, Donna Jean Huston, 6 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert Corn Sr., sons Charles and Robert Corn Jr., brothers Fred, John, Howard, George, and Glen Hunter, sister-in- law Shirley Hunter, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2023, with Chaplain Mark Linn officiating, at Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, 111 W. Main St., Amanda. Burial will follow the service in Tarlton, OH. The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
