James J. Wohrer

James Joseph (Jim) Wohrer, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away after a long illness, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Lancaster, on July 26, 1948, son of the late Joseph and Frances (Justus) Wohrer.

Jim graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School in 1966 and entered the US Navy in January of 1969. He was proud of serving as a Naval Seabee in Vietnam. For his service Jim was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After the Navy, Jim worked for many years as a diesel mechanic, and retired from Midwest Fabricating as Purchasing Manager. He was a loving, caring family man, and loved nothing better than spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Jim could build anything, and fix anything. He enjoyed many hours outdoors at the family farm playing cards, throwing darts, and playing “hillbilly” golf, as well as time spent in his garage working on innumerable mechanical and construction projects or just relaxing. He was always ready to lend a helping hand whether to family, friend, or anyone in need. Jim was a man of faith, and a devoted member of Water’s Edge Assembly of God, Newark, Ohio.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann (Gilbraith), his three daughters Beth Anne (Jim) Alford, Jamie (Tom) Rohr, Julie Wohrer, and embraced daughters Brandy Beck, Christina Patterson, and Davida (Brett) Chute, and son in law, Travis Patterson, grandchildren Christian Burghy, Drew Alford, Stephanie Moniz, Erica Whipps, Cody and Brianna Allman, Jay and Hunter Chute, Preston and Jayden Patterson, great grandchildren Chloe, Ayden, and Maverick, sister Ann (Dave) Levacy, brother Nick (Diane) Wohrer, sister in law Jennifer Wohrer, sister in law Mary Jean Arnold, father in law William E. Daubenmire, brothers in law Bill (Barb) Daubenmire, Mike (Becky) Daubenmire, sister in law Kristen (Daubenmire) Kennedy, many nieces and nephews, and his loyal canine companion, Ralph.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, his first wife and mother of his three daughters, Karen Sue (Daubenmire) Wohrer, infant daughter Tara Nicole, brother Michael L. Wohrer, sister Suellen Croft, father and mother in law, Arthur and Helen Gilbraith, mother in law Betty Daubenmire, brother in law Rick Daubenmire, and son in law Chuck Eskew.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Water’s Edge Assembly of God, 2249 Cherry Valley Road SE, Newark, OH. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation hours will be Friday July 16, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, 111 W. Main St., Amanda, Ohio and 1 hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made in Jim’s memory to Fairhope Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
