James Steven Norris, 69, of Amanda passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 1, 1956 to the late James Edward and Shirley Ann (McKinney) Norris. He was a 1974 graduate of Lancaster High School. After high school he worked for Westermans in Bremen and then he became a Fairfield County Sheriff Deputy, he was hired as the first security officer at the Lancaster-Fairfield County Hospital. He then went to work fulltime for the Sheriff Department until 2003 when he became the Lancaster City School Resource Officer. In 2009 he returned to the Sheriff Department as a Sergeant in the Jail until his retirement in 2019. He had multiple interests outside of work but enjoyed his granddaughter Athena the most.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law.
Steve is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol; children, Monica Norris, and Aaron (Morgan) Norris; favorite granddaughter, Athena; brothers, David (Michele) Norris, Tim Norris; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 24 from 3pm until 7pm at Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, 111 W. Main St, Amanda. The funeral will immediately follow at 7pm.
