Gerald âJerryâ Franklin Butler, 79, of Lancaster passed away on January 19, 2017 at his home. He was born in Weston, West Virginia to the late Foster Butler and Rachel Mildred (White) Butler. He graduated from Philo High School in Philo, Ohio where he then enlisted in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force as a frogman, he trained alongside the Seals specializing in Explosive Ordnance Disposal. His expertise was with underwater demolition although he also worked with unexploded ordnances throughout the world. After the military, he and Bonnie Emerick were married on August 15, 1964. He worked for Western Freight and Western Carloading before taking over responsibility for Snortin Ridge farm from his father. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother James, and his sister Barbara Heine. He is survived by Bonnie, his wife of 52 years, his two sisters, his son Gerry Dale (Sharon) Butler, his daughter Jennifer (Daniel) Butler Modaff, and grandchildren Alan and Daniel Butler, Ryley, Caden, and Sayre Butler Modaff. He was very much anticipating meeting his soon to be adopted granddaughter, Emeri Butler Modaff. Per his request, no service or memorial will be held.
