Gene R. Dossett, age 78 of Amanda, arrived home to be with God on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. He was born April 19, 1945, in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of the late John R. "Doc" and Ruth V. "Mert" Dossett. He was a graduate of Steubenville High School. After high school, he served six years in the Ohio Army National Guard. He was retired from the Columbus Police Department after 25 years of service. Gene was an active member of the F.O.P. He loved all sports - tennis, football, and basketball. He especially enjoyed watching Sports Center on ESPN.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Sharon; children, Jeremy Gene (April) Dossett, of Bremen, Larry Farmer, of Amanda, Michelle Farmer, of Indiana; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Charlene) Dossett, of Somerset; and several nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Dossett.
A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, Amanda. A graveside service including military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Amanda Township Cemetery. A time of fellowship will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. at the Lancaster Church of Christ, 1779 Granville Pk., Lancaster.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to the Fairfield Area Humane Society in Gene's memory.
