Gary Sellars

June 9, 1951 — February 8, 2019


Gary E. Sellars, 67, of Amanda, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family,  on Friday, February 8, 2019.  He was born June 9, 1951 in Newark and was the son of the late John and Mary (Lewis) Sellars.  Gary would have graduated from Newark High School but enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War and 45 years after the war he was reunited with army buddy and special friend, George Rice.  He was a hard core union man and was past president of IBEW Local Union #2359 and a member of Local Union #71 for 39 years.  Gary enjoyed building cars, especially his ‘38 Plymouth coupe.  You might have heard him squealing his tires a time or two. Wink!  He spent many years coaching Amanda youth sports teams including his daughter’s softball team, his son’s baseball and basketball teams and was a pitching coach for Amanda girl’s softball team and was a coach with the Lancaster Phoenix gir’s softball team.
Left to cherish his memory are his long time companion, Debra Kay McCoy; children, Misty Sellars of Circleville, Dustin (Kaylean) Sellars of Commercial Point, Missy Zuck of Amanda and Corbin Zuck of Stoutsville; grandchildren, Haeleigh, Morgan, Madison, Lacie, Jordan, Cieara, Braxton, Brooklynne and one on the way, Briella, Dominick, Chance and Braylon; four brothers, Frank, Terry, Leslie and Kevin Sellars; sister, Carolyn (Bill) Arbuckle; numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend, Tim Kackley.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Henry Sellars and two brothers, Jack and Donald Sellars.
Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m. Monday at the Taylor Funeral Home in Amanda with Rev. Chris Hildenbrand officiating.  Friends may visit with the family from 1-3 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will take place at the convenience of the family at Maple Hill Cemetery in Stoutsville.
The family would like contributions to be directed to FairHope Hospice, 282 Sells Rd., Lancaster, Ohio 43130 in Gary’s memory.
