Donald E. "Don" Alexander passed away, Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Adena Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 18, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Donald E. Alexander and Ruth L. (DeMint) Blackburn. He was a graduate of Marion Franklin High School, class of 1970. Don spent many years serving our country in the U.S. Navy, earning a national defense service medal, first good conduct medal, Vietnam campaign medal, and the Vietnam service medal. He was employed by the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) at the Ohio State Penitentiary and the Correction Rehabilitation Center (CRC) where he was a lieutenant, followed by a career of over 20 years at COTA.
He is survived by his son, Donald E. Alexander III, of Mount Sterling; step-children, Heather, Julia, Scott, Jennifer, and Ryan; siblings, Patricia "Patty" (Tom) Blazer, of Lancaster, Forest M. (Susan) Alexander, of Columbus, and Byron L. Alexander, of Ashland, OH; nieces and nephews, Joshua Alexander, Chloe Alexander, Timothy Alexander, Melissa Alexander, Gary Brumfield, and Jennifer Amen; several great nieces and nephews; many cousins; special friend; and ex-wife, Jana Alexander. Don is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth L. Blackburn and Donald Alexander; brother, George R. Alexander; and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023, with military honors to be conducted at 1:00 p.m. at Taylor-Theller Funeral Home, 111 W. Main St., Amanda. Cremation has been arranged in the care of the funeral home.
