Barbara Joos

d. August 17, 2024

Lancaster

Barbara Ann Joos, age 83 of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at her home. She was born November 10, 1940, in Lancaster, the daughter of Carl and Relva (Blum) Helwig. She was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. She was a former member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Lancaster where she sang in the Adult Choir and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of Twig #12 where she volunteered in the gift shop at Fairfield Medical Center. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Barbara was a stay-home mother to her five children, raising them through all the mischief of having four boys and a girl who could keep up with the best of them. She managed a household that could range from a family of seven to a gathering of thirty or more - whether it was the holidays or any random Saturday. Always the gracious host, she made certain that everyone felt welcome, even though she might slip away to a quiet place. She loved to travel across the country and enjoyed many trips in their RV, both north/south and east/west. Her life with Michael lent them the great opportunity to live in several communities in multiple states, sharing those experiences with their family and creating friendships everywhere they went. When at home, she loved spending time with her childhood friends, through card club, dinners out, making jam and jellies, or a simple chat on the back porch.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Andrew Joos; children, Andrew M. and Pamela (Cardiff) Joos, Brian P. and Vicky (Salyers) Joos, Benjamin S. and Michelle (Mannisto) Joos, Laura A. (Joos) and Mark Hollenbaugh, and Douglas and Beth (Townsend) Joos; former daughters in law, Karen (Robert Caldwell) Joos and Dawn (Wingerd) Eden; grandchildren, Scott (Tiffany Ketron) Joos, Robin (Marquis Hamilton) Joos, Crystal (Brad) Cramer, Drew Joos, Tyler (Erin) Joos, Nathan Joos, Bella Serdenkovski, Hayden Joos, Zachary (Deanna Travali) Hollenbaugh, Catherine Phillips, Ian (Zeineb Sellami) Hollenbaugh, Jessica (Rob Accorto) Joos, Abigail Joos, Seth Joos, and Sara Joos; great grandchildren, Alyson, William, and Evelyn Phillips, Benjamin Hollenbaugh, Lily and Olivia Cramer, and Lelianna Ketron; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, William Helwig.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 132 S. High St., Lancaster with Fr. Denis Kigozi, Celebrant. Cremation will follow the Mass. Inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Mary Cemetery. Barbara's family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass at the Church.
